My name is Matthew Whelan. I am redshirt junior here at Davenport University where I also currently play on the Men’s soccer team. I am 22 years old, and I am originally from Cork, Ireland. I moved to the United States in order to pursue a soccer scholarship as well as a 4 year degree at a top tier university.
How to get better at PR for your own business.

Let’s say you have some ideas on how to make your business better. There is a couple ways in which you can create better PR for your own business. For the so called bigger businesses out there, it is most certainly easier and quicker for them to get their news out to the public. But what about you? what can you do to improve? A great PR strategy you could take up could be following current trends and consumer behaviors. According to Entrepreneur, “Most PR wins come from understanding why you are relevant at that time”. At to an extent, I totally agree with this, in today’s world and society we live with how big of a role social media platforms play in people’s lives by being and to recognize these behaviors and trends you can then follow these within your business and hopefully leapfrog your business in the right direction.
Another great way is having a good image, and especially in the public eye. According to Entrepreneur, “When you start putting your brand into the public eye—or trying to—the first thing editors, potential business partners or customers will be looking at is your website and social media presence.” I particularly agree with this, as even I as a consumer pay special attention to the image of the brand if I was about to purchase from them. If your brand or your business image looks dull and unappealing, then nobody is going to want to pay any attention to your business and you will have a bad public image which in turn will then reflect your public relations.
Overall, by following consumer trends and behaviors and getting your house in order especially in relation to your public image, you can become extremely successful in your business.

Is Budweiser trying to help with COVID-19?

Almost every year, Budweiser has a massive part to play in the Superbowl advertisements, and they pretty much have since the 1980’s and this year is no different. But this year, they will not be doing their average advertisement. In fact, they are delegating their efforts to others in order to help advertise for Covid-19 relief. This year, Budweiser will not be running an ad in the Superbowl, instead they are going to re-allocate their funds in order to support vaccine awareness for the deadly Covid-19 virus that has struck our world. No doubt Budweiser of course have a side agenda in the public eye, whereby doing this people might see what a great job they are doing and therefore boosting Budweiser’s brand awareness.
Like any big company, and especially with how big of a powerhouse company that Budweiser is, there is no doubt that people will be hawking their every move to see how by doing this that Budweiser is going to benefit. With Budweiser doing this, and the millions of dollars that can be put into this advertisement in order to boost awareness for COVID-19, hopefully the money will be put to good use and grab people’s attention and no doubt it will. Every year thousands upon thousands and if not millions have their eyes all on the Superbowl as it is one of the biggest sporting events in the United States of America every year. In my opinion, it is fantastic that Budweiser decided that the Superbowl would be a better time than ever to show awareness for Covid-19, and I think it is a fantastic idea.
Wallstreet bets hits Robinhood hard

As everybody who keeps a close eye on the financial world was very much aware of how crazy the past week has been in terms of the stock market. In today’s society and current world events, it seemed basically like another day at the office. Thousands upon millions took to the internet and specifically Reddit in order to make a profit and hit back at these so called Wall street “gangsters”. For those of you that do not know, some stocks like for example, Gamestop and AMC absolutely sky rocketed this past week and people made millions. Even those so called rookie investors. Simply because of a thread on Reddit where everybody was told to purchase 1 or 2 stocks specifically.
But after a week, the so called hierarchy of wall street knew this could not continue so they did something about it. But it was not even them that caused the biggest headlines, it was the investing app Robinhood, that really grabbed the headlights. Robinhood in fact began to stop purchases being bought of the stock Gamestop and AMC. But this made the online users absolutely furious as in their eyes it was in fact a method of stock manipulation. Users of the Robinhood app began to slate the app by giving it a 1 star review in order to dampen their reputation. But it did not end there, the users of the Robinhood app are now also taking up a class action lawsuit against the company, and many people think they will in fact win the case.
Get Tough on Deforestation, otherwise there will be no trees left.

Some big companies have finally taken a firm stance on deforestation efforts, and thankfully it has been a long time coming. Some of the names at the top of this list is companies like Unilever and McDonalds. With McDonalds of being one of the more major powerhouses. According to The Drum, “Some of Britain’s biggest food brands are imploring the government to adopt a tougher stance against deforestation.” This in my opinion reflects greatly in the public relations eye of the companies that are pleading the case to stop deforestation. These kind of companies have requested that there be a tougher stance taken by the government in order to prevent deforestation.
From a McDonalds point of view, this is a great way of getting involved with the public in the current real world issues that are going on, and the people that are trying to prevent deforestation would be delighted to see that such a powerhouse like McDonalds is fully supporting them. These efforts would now help the people that have been long campaigning that environmental deforestation needs to be stopped now have a major backing when confronting the government about tackling deforestation. In my opinion, this kind of action has been long overdue, and it is about time this kind of thing is now being tackled head on. It has long been stated in the public about the problems that are going on in the amazon with the amount of deforestation that is going on there, and now there finally needs to be something done about it.
